The leading sports technology company has closed a £1.5m seed round of investment, leading to the launch of a new office in the US and further expansion across the UK and Ireland.
Sports technology company Kairos, based in Belfast, Northern Ireland, has successfully closed its seed round, raising £1.5m to support fund aggressive international growth plans.
Having recorded significant growth in the UK and secured customers in the US, Canada, Australia and Singapore in recent months, Kairos is now positioned to become the global market-leading planning platform in elite sports.
Kairos helps elite sports teams and athletes manage all aspects of their busy schedules including training sessions, meetings and physio/medical appointments, as well as provide robust and reliable communication channels. The platform is currently being utilised by elite clubs in every tier of English football, EURO 2021 international sides, Premiership and PRO14 rugby sides, as well as teams in North America and South East Asia.
The investment will see Kairos meet growing international demand through further developments to its tech platform and the expansion of its offices globally.
The company will grow its UK, Ireland and US teams, adding to the appointment of two senior sales personnel, software engineers and a head of marketing in the past six months, despite challenges posed by the ongoing global pandemic.
Kairos was established in early 2018 by former Irish and Ulster rugby professional Andrew Trimble and Belfast-based entrepreneur, Gareth Quinn. The duo came together after discussing the frustrations experienced by Andrew when it came to the detail of preparing for weekly games at the elite level.
Andrew Trimble, CEO and co-founder of Kairos, commented:
“Coming from an elite sporting background, I understand how important it is to focus on effective planning, and the impact it can have on team and individual performances.
“Having had personal insight into the unique complexities of managing internal schedules and communication across team staff and players, I’ve seen ‘the good and the bad’ – including time wasted unnecessarily due to poor systems and the confusion caused by messy communications.
“To address this, at Kairos we’ve built a ‘single source of truth’ solution that is robust, reliable and flexible to fit the needs of elite sports,” he said.
“Led by our world class engineering team, we have developed a cloud-based platform that helps athletes to focus on their own bespoke performance plans, while seamlessly providing valuable tools and insights to coaches and medical staff.
“We are already establishing a strong footprint across new, international markets and are amid ambitious plans and discussions with a number of major sports teams, individuals and leagues across the globe.”
Allen Martin, Investment Director, Techstart Ventures commented:
“As a first cheque investor, we are delighted to support Kairos in this funding round. Having had direct experience in professional sport, founder Andrew Trimble identified an exciting opportunity for a technology platform to meet the requirements of elite sport.
“This investment round is a strong endorsement of the work of Andrew, co-founder Gareth Quinn and the entire Kairos team. With an innovative platform and growing customer base, in what is an international market opportunity, we look forward to working with Kairos to support the next stage of growth.”
