Kairos set for rapid US growth through exclusive accelerator programme

Belfast-based sports technology company Kairos has been accepted onto the exclusive US Techstars Sports Accelerator, Powered by Indy, Class of 2021. The company is participating in a 13-week mentorship-driven accelerator program that will culminate with Demo Day in September, at which it will showcase its progress to an anticipated audience of more than 500 investors from around the world.

Throughout the three-month accelerator, participating companies will work with almost 200 highly respected mentors within the sports industry to refine their market strategies, better understand their customers, navigate obstacles in their path and accelerate the rate of progress through aggressive company goal setting and accountability. The accelerator will provide access to high level executives from top US leagues such as the NFL, NBA, NHL and MLB.

This is the latest phase in its expansion journey for Kairos, which closed £1.5m in investment in early 2021 following a number of significant product releases and extensive engagement with its customers across the UK, Ireland, Australia, Canada and the US.

Kairos was established in 2018 by former Irish and Ulster rugby professional Andrew Trimble and Belfast-based entrepreneur, Gareth Quinn. Despite growing its headcount significantly in recent months, the company has plans to further expand its team of top talent to help drive the ongoing development and sales and marketing of its communications platform for elite sports teams.

The platform was developed to tackle challenges experienced by CEO and co-founder Andrew Trimble when it came to receiving the relevant information to be able to plan for and execute on game day with a consistent high performance.

“Over the past 18 months we have developed the platform to be the most complete solution on the market and have already onboarded some of the biggest sporting names in Europe,” he explained.

“Ongoing investment in growing out a world-class team has enabled us to continually enhance the platform and embark on this next phase of our growth journey, which will see us expand our client base to include elite sports teams globally.

“We are both proud and excited to be part of the 2021 Techstars cohort and confident that this incredible opportunity will help us to continue growing at significant pace in the coming months and years.”

Jordan Fliegal, Managing Director at Techstars speaking on the programme:

“The Techstars Sports Accelerator, powered by Indy, leverages our unique relationship with the leading sports properties in Indy (Pacers Sports & Entertainment, NCAA, Indiana Sports Corp, Indianapolis Colts and IMS/Indy 500), and incredible group of 150+ mentors, who are leaders in the sports, tech and venture communities, to back and support top startups from around the world that are innovating in the broadly defined sports space.

“In finalising this year’s class, we continued our global search for the best founders – with tremendous determination and vision – and teams working on the most timely and exciting subcategories within the overall sports and fitness ecosystems.

“We are thrilled to have Kairos (out of Belfast) in our 2021 class, and proud of the strong progress they have made already in the short time we have worked together. Kairos is innovating in their space with dozens of clients already, by providing a valuable communication app that helps sports teams stay better connected and informed, so that the players can focus on what really matters – their performance on the field and court.”
